First Time Sunday School Visitors

We are so excited that you are planning to bring your child to Sunday School for the first time.

Due West UMC has three buildings.  The Children's Ministires area is in Building A.  This is the building that is closest to Burnt Hickory Road.  It has a steeple on top.  This building has the sanctuary where our traditional services are held (see picture below).

 

 

 

 

 

 

The entrance to the Children's Ministires area is a blue door with sunflowers painted on it.  We suggest that you drive through our parking lot during the week and locate this door before you come.  The door looks like the picture to the right.

When you enter the blue "sunflower doors", you are in the Children's Check-In area.  There is a staff member or a representative from our Children's Ministries Leadership Team at our Welcome Desk on Sunday mornings from 9:20-10:00 and from 10:45-11:10.  All children age 3 (on Sept. 1 of the current school year) through 5th grade check-in here each time they attend Sunday School. 

On your first visit, you will be asked to fill out an Information Sheet about your family and make a handwritten nametag for your child.  When you return on future Sundays, this information will have been entered into our system so your child will be able to have the computer print his/her nametag. (The directions for logging into our computer system are posted above each check-in station.)

All elementary students (K-5th grade) are combined for the start of the Sunday School hour in Children's Assembly (N118).  After their Praise and Worship time, they split into grade level groups and move to the workshop that they are scheduled to attend.  This schedule is posted on the bulletin board in Children's Check-in.  These workshop rooms are rooms N118, N119, N128, N129, N131, N133, N134, N135, N136 and N137.  At the end of Sunday School, you will pick your child up from this workshop.

Preschool children (age 3 on Sept. 1 of the current school year-Preschool-age 5) are combined for the start of the Sunday School hour in Room N103 for a playtime and then their own time of singing.  After their Praise and Worship time, they are split into age level groups and move to the classroom that they are scheduled to attend.  This schedule is posted on the bulletin board in the Preschool Sunday School area.  The Preschool Sunday School rooms are rooms N103, N110 and N111.  At the end of Sunday School, you will pick your child up from this room.

Parents are welcome in any of our programs.  If your child is reluctant to attend, please feel free to stay as long as necessary for your child to feel comfortable in the new setting.

Children may not attend Sunday School for two hours on the same Sunday,  If your family will be at church two hours (and we hope you are!), your child should attend Sunday School while you are in Sunday School and go to church with you the other hour.
