Each month our Missions Ministry sponsors a different project involving Murphy-Harpst Children's Home, MUST Ministries, SafePath and Shady Grove Nursing Home. Look on the Missions Board located in the lower level of the North Campus (Building A) & the Family Life Center lobby (building B) for ways in which you can serve each month. We also have year round and once a year Missions that you can become involved in. We'd love to have your used computers to donate to the Computers for ESOL Children Program, and once a year we particpate in Habitat for Humanity.
Help us fill a Christmas Stocking with love for the Children at Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center (MHCC). Murphy-Harpst is non-profit agency that provides behavioral health care, educational preventative, and intervention services to needy children and their families. It is a residential treatment center for children and youth ages 6-17 with severe emotional and/or behavioral
problems. Most of these children are victims of traumatic abuse and neglect.
You may pick a stocking with a child’s name on it off the Mission’s Bulletin Board in the North Campus or in the Family Life Center and buy the gift listed for the child starting Sunday, November 9. PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER ON THE SIGN-UP SHEET. Unwrapped gifts (in boxes if possible) should be returned to the Mission’s table no later than Sunday, December 7th. If you have any questions, please call Lizette Bryan at 404/867-2576.
Due West supports the United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR). Many of our local and world neighbors have recently experienced major disasters. UMCOR provides emergency relief to these victims. Amity Foundation, a partner of UMCOR, was able to send help to those affected within hours in response to the massive earthquake in China. UMCOR has also issued emergency grants from both the Missouri and Oklahoma Annual Conferences for tornado damage in those states. In addition, UMCOR is in communication with the Arkansas and Georgia conferences as they respond to storm survivors. UMCOR is currently working with partners to bring relief to cyclone victims in Myanmar.
100% of contributions to UMCOR are used to alleviate suffering-whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster-with open minds and hearts to all people. You can make an individual donation to any project by placing a contribution labeled for UMCOR in the offering plate at Due West. If you wish to designate which project, please indicate on your check or contribution envelope.
Due West would like to collect your children’s old shoes-athletic shoes, baby shoes, dress shoes, etc. These shoes will be packaged and sent to the Hearts for the Children Ministry in Guatemala. They will then be distributed to needy children all over the country. A collection container will be located next to the Missions Table at the bottom of the stairway outside the Sanctuary.
