Opening Prayer

Gracious God,

You call us to go and make disciples. Lead us by your Holy Spirit to share our experience of you with those around us so that we might see souls won for the Kingdom of God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reading

Our mission statement is “Inviting our community to join us as we gather together, grow in Jesus Christ and go serve.”   The very first word is “Inviting”.    We are called to invite people into a relationship with Jesus.   One of the best ways to do that is to live a life that is appealing.  People should see the love and joy of the Lord in us and wonder what it is we have.    No one is attracted to the life of a Christian who never seems joyful.    

When this is noticed, we can simply share our experience with Jesus.   What has he done for you?  What has he done in you?   What difference does that make in your life?    This doesn’t need to be a prepared speech, but a simple sharing of your joy.   In the same way you would be willing to tell someone about a movie or book you like, tell people about the savior you love and who loves you.     It does not need to be complicated.

When I was in seminary, a man named George Morris was my evangelism professor.   I learned more from him than I could tell you.   George passed away in November and I believe he was greeted by countless souls in heaven with whom he shared Jesus.    One of my favorite quotes of his was this: “No way is the way to share the gospel.   But by God’s grace, any way can become a way.”    Go invite someone to join us.   And do so with the confidence that by God’s grace your way can become a way.
