Opening Prayer

Lord, you taught us so much in your short time on earth. Especially, you showed us what obedience and surrender to our Father in Heaven looks like. May we follow in your footsteps and yield our will to our Heavenly Father.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

Learning to Pray Like Jesus

Throughout the Bible we see faithful people surrendering or yielding their will to God. Abraham's willingness to sacrifice Isaac, Esther risking her life for her people and Paul who counted all things lost for Christ.

When we trust God's plan for our life and truly surrender our will for His (even when it is difficult for us), we enter into a much deeper relationship with our Father. This deeper relationship allows us to accept those things in life that we do not understand. Job showed us what this looks like by accepting his immense loss and still declaring "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord."

Jesus showed us the same surrender in the Garden of Gethsamane. He surrendered His human desire to the Father's will praying , "not my will, but yours, be done."

I would never say this is an easy path to follow but we can call on the Holy Spirit to direct us and guide us as we let go. Life is just so much better when we remember our God is always with us and will strengthen us on our journey.

Oh Gracious God, without you in our lives we are nothing. With you, anything is possible as we strive to completely surrender our will for yours. May we learn to pray like Jesus.
