DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
In John 13:34–35, Jesus tells His disciples, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” These words remind us that love is not merely a feeling that fades with emotion—it is a deliberate choice, an ongoing action. True love reflects the heart of God, who loves us unconditionally and sacrificially.
In a world that often measures love by what we receive in return, Jesus calls us to something higher. His love is not transactional or dependent on worthiness; it is steadfast and selfless. Christ’s love moved Him to wash the feet of His followers—even the one who would betray Him—and ultimately to lay down His life for all. When we love in this way, we reveal to the world that we belong to Him.
Loving others this way can be challenging. It asks us to forgive when holding onto a grudge feels easier, to show patience when someone tests our limits, and to extend kindness even to those who cannot repay us. There was a time when I struggled to love a coworker who constantly criticized my ideas. Every interaction left me wounded and frustrated. But one day, I prayed for God to help me see them the way He does. Slowly, my heart softened. I began to listen more and react less. Over time, our relationship changed—not because the tension vanished, but because love replaced resentment.
Christlike love is not always comfortable, but it transforms both the giver and receiver. It reflects God’s nature and becomes a testimony to those who see it lived out. Through every act of compassion, every moment of grace, and every sacrifice made in love, we declare that Jesus is real in us.
