Murphy-Harpst Easter Baskets
A special Due West UMC tradition continues as we provide Easter basket treats for the children at Murphy- Harpst Children’s Center (MHCC).
Items are purchased in bulk online from an Amazon wish list and shipped directly to MHCC. The baskets are then filled onsite. Simply click on the link below, choose an item to add it to your personal Amazon account, select Murphy- Harpst as the shipping address, and submit.
Murphy- Harpst is asking that all items be ordered by April 1 with an arrival date of no later than April 6.
If you would prefer, you can purchase an Amazon gift card (available at most grocery and drug stores) and leave it with Denise in the church office. You can also send a check to the church and put “Murphy-Harpst Easter” in the memo line.

What is Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center?
Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center is a nonprofit residential treatment center that provides a safe haven for some of Georgia’s most abused children. It is located in Cedartown, Georgia. Most of the children actually live on the Murphy-Harpst campus and receive daily therapy. Younger children live in specialized foster homes and receive services from Murphy-Harpst. Members of Due West UMC have supported the center in a WIDE variety of ways for many, many years.
How many children currently live at Murphy-Harspt?
As of March 4, 2020, there were 60 children living on the residential campus with five additional expected by the end of the following week. The children range in age from 12-19 years.
Is Due West UMC responsible for all the Easter baskets?
No, Murphy-Harpst currently serves 175-200 children at a time – up to 75 on campus, over 100 in specialized foster care. This year, we have again chosen to provide items for the children who currently live on the Murphy-Harpst campus. Other churches/organizations are donating items for the children in specialized foster care.
If I donate a gift card, how is it used?
If you purchase a gift card (available at most grocery and drug stores) and leave it with Denise Luders in the church office, it is combined with other gift card donations to purchase higher priced items on the wish list. Once everything has been ordered, the cards are given to Murphy-Harpst for special Easter activities. In 2021, Due West UMC donated funds and supplies for an egg hunt on campus after church – they first one in many, many years!
Will items be added to the list during the month?
YES! Murphy Harpt staff will add items to the wish list as others are purchased. This is to insure that they have enough of one item for the all the baskets before requesting an additional item.
Can items be purchased from places other than Amazon?
Yes. Please click on the “Buying this gift elsewhere?” on the Amazon list and leave the items with Denise Luders in the church office no later than April 6. Keep in mind that most everything listed is a bulk item so you would need to note how many are needed if you purchase somewhere else.
I have 75 new _____. Would Murphy Harpst like these for their baskets?
How nice of you to think of the kids at Murphy- Harpst! Contact Kyle Moore (jdmoore@mindspring.com) and she will contact a staff member to ask if they can use what you have to donate. The Murphy- Harpst staff decides what they would like included in the baskets. There are definitely items that are prohibited (for example, anything made of glass) and we always ask first.
What does it mean when the item on Amazon does not indicate a price and has a “See All Buying Options” box?
This indicates that Amazon currently does not have the item in stock and they have given you the option of purchasing from other sellers. You can definitely do this. Be aware this sometimes means there are shipping costs and/or the item may not arrive as quickly. Please be certain that you make note of these possible changes.
What do I do if I get a “delivery attempted with your Amazon package” email indicating that there was an issue?
Nothing. Your package arrived at Murphy-Harpst on a weekend, holiday, or after-hours when no one was in the administration building to receive it. The delivery will be made a day or two afterwards.
What do I do if get a “duplicate order” message?
This simply means that more than one of that particular item was requested by Murphy-Harpst and you are not the first person who ordered it. If the item is still on the wish list, it is still needed and you can still order it.
