  • Monthly Prayer Focus: Spiritual Growth and Development

In Matthew 13, we read of Jesus telling the crowds gathered a parable about a man planting seeds. The man planted seeds in various types of soil and got varied results. Jesus, in verses 18 through 23 of that chapter, explains that the seeds planted are the seeds of His Kingdom. He goes on to describe how the various types of soil relate to our spiritual lives and how they can help that seed flourish or choke that seed to death. The soil does not make the seed grow, but the soil provides (or doesn’t provide) the atmosphere where seeds will grow.

Spiritual disciplines, like prayer, service, guidance, and worship (just to name a few), are not the seed—they are what God uses to make the soil of our lives “good soil” where the seeds of His Kingdom will grow. Prayer plays a part in making the spiritual soil in your life healthy enough to grow what God is planting in you.

Although prayer is an “inward” discipline, practicing the discipline of prayer, we need others. We need others to bear us up before God. We need the opportunity to bear others up before God. We need the opportunity to pray together in person and the opportunity to know that we are agreeing in prayer with one another even across distances. Christians are not meant to bear this world alone. In our church, small groups and Sunday school classes offer each of us the opportunity to band with other believers. We encourage one another. We bear one another in prayer. We offer each other support as the seeds of the Kingdom grow in us.

As we pray for spiritual growth in ourselves, let’s also pray for the same in those we have banded together with here at Due West. Pray for good soil in the lives of those who come across our path so that the seeds scattered will find root and produce fruit in every life.

Join us this month in praying…

    • New Small Groups: For the leaders, members, and church staff as they form groups to meet our growing needs.

  • The Congregational Care Ministry provides tangible love and support to the Due West church family. Members and Pastors work together to connect to and encourage those experiencing illness, loss, or who can no longer attend worship in person. Through this caring ministry, Holy Communion and anointing with oil are offered as a reminder that Christ is always with us in body, mind, and spirit. The Congregational Care team is eager to serve, with confidentiality, any member of the Due West family.  To connect to this team and be assigned a Congregational Care Minister, contact Brenda Wyatt (Lay Leader) at bwyatt66chs@gmail.com or call (770) 605-3709.

Matthew 25:40: “Truly I tell you whatever you did for one of the least of those brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

  • In the coming weeks, you will see professional photographers around our campus capturing the life of our church—during services, in our gathering spaces, among our volunteers serving, and as you come and go.
